Let me lead with that I apparently need better friends. I've heard from them that this was a place you had to go to. I should just stick to aggregate reviews from foodie people on Yelp, methinks. I had the deep fried beef tacos. The beef was well seasoned, but nothing too exciting. The beans were a good consistency for refried, and the rice wasn't too bad (which is saying something because I'm usually not into Mexican rice) The salsa was truly eh. I knew something was up as we were reaching for the hot sauces on the table to try and spice it. It tasted positively jar-born, and more like... spaghetti sauce. In went the jalapeño Tabasco, in went the Cholula hot sauce. Some salt. Still not really palatable. My wife had the chicken tacos (also deep fried) but the seasoning on the meat was really inconsistent. Her first was apparently not too bad, but she traded her second for one of mine (being married is great!) and it just tasted of bland white meat... Which is sad. All in all, I'd rather eat it than a PB sammach, but there's lots of places I'd rather eat.

Just ok American Mexican food. Definitely nowhere near authentic, you can order your tacos deep fried though and they are quite tasty, albeit making them more like a fast food. Good cheese dip, decent salsa....really, just a middle of the road experience. This restaraunt has been here for at least 15 years, its always busy when it should be, and yet noone has reviewed it until now. I guess its the kind of place noone minds eating at, but isn't a first choice.

We were impressed with the food, great customer service and we were surprised they had "Specials" on the weekends.

Went here for a work lunch to celebrate one of the other chaplains birthdays. I'm not a huge Mexican Food fan and wasn't in the mood for Mexican food, so I ordered a hamburger and fries. My burger was dry and tough and the fries were OK but nothing to write home about. The servings are adequate for the price. All the folks in our party seemed to enjoy their food. It was quiet during lunch so we could talk and there seemed to be a lot of regulars in the restaurant. I would go back.

Had the food twice. Once carryout had the chimi & I'll give you $1 if you can finish, it's HUGE! & the other time ( next day ) I went in for lunch. Service was good, atmosphere was clean, & food... Great! I'll be back.

Please tell me it will get better! The waitress was terrible, she seemed under a lot of pressure and was horrible even as just an order taker. Maybe she was having a bad night. Yes, they were busy but there are not enough tables in there for 2 waitresses on the floor to get overwhelmed. The bus girl did everything for us. Besides wiping down the table, she brought us silverware, napkins, chips and salsa plus a to go container. We had an accident and the waitress was nowhere to be found. Our food order was input incorrectly, although she did correct the problem immediately. This should have been what I expected in Gladstone though. Not trying to be nasty but she looked kind of dirty and trashy too, we almost left when she came over to take my order. Only stopped in because I was in the area and I remembered how good the food was in Northmoor. Did not even realize they had reopened. We will give it one more shot only and see what happens.

I eat here at least twice a week (and that's cutting it back). While they may not be the most "authentic" Mexican restaurant by some folks standards, they sure do serve some damn good food. I went to Houston last summer and had some fish tacos at a famous (or so they said) l Tex-Mex joint in Galveston (one of my requirements on that trip) and was sooooooooo disappointed. Yes, you can say I'm partial, but come on - wilted lettuce on hot uncrispy fried fish that made the corn tortillas soggy is not passable food. The Flats, however, have EXCELLENT fish tacos with NO wilty lettuce (they use cabbage which doesn't wilt) and crispy, flavorful fish. Beware of the pico, it can be a tad spicy. I also recommend the Chicken Diablo. A big ol' breast o' chicken with Diablo sauce and cheese - tasty, tasty!! Also - awesome french fries and queso. In summation, I'm here every Friday and will continue to be there every Friday until they kick me out.

Although this isn't my favorite mexican restaurant, it definitely does the trick! They have a mexican pizza on the menu that is loaded down and delicious! The margaritas seem to hurt my stomach, but no one else in my family has a problem with them! They have a great taco night that makes for a cheap dinner!!

The fajitas were awesome, it's totally "American Mexican" food complete with burger and fries on the menu lol but overall it was pretty good, good portions to.

Tortilla Flats Tortilla Flats may not look like much outside, but when you go inside it's something. It looked like someone was getting ready for a big party. There was even a stained glass window. There were three TV's and it was very busy even on Monday night. A lady came up to my friend and I and said that they had to clean three tables. So we stood there for a few more minutes and then the young lady brought us to a booth. I know many people don't talk about the booths in a restaurant, but the booth was very hard, if you ask me. We ordered and chips were brought to us. The two sauces that came were salsa and ranch dressing. The best, BEST part was the ranch. I did not know this until someone told me, but the ranch is homemade. It was SO rich and creamy. We had a few chips and then our tacos came fast. We had ordered the tacos, not the fried tacos. My friend had told me about them, but I wasn't interested in trying them out. I was surprised how fast the food came, but after I took a bite of one of my three tacos, I was satisfied. The tacos had lettuce, cheese, ground meat, and that was about it. There were NO sides, and I think there should have been. If you ever go there, I think that an adult should have about three tacos. I would go there again, if I felt for something quick. For people who like to sit at bars, there is a full bar. Tortilla Flats is a good place for all ages.

I've been coming here since I was a kid, always one of my favorite restaurants! The chimichangas are great! Good salsa, chips, rice. Some stuff on the menu can be average but the burritos are hard to beat. Service is usually pretty good and wait isnt ever bad outside of dinner rush.

Very good American style Mex. Deep fried tacos are great. Chicken Diablo is also. The Mexican lasagna is better than any where else in town. Great chips and salsa. The place is always busy, but not over crowded. Just an all around good place to eat. Easy on the wallet, and will fill your belly.

Pretty decent food, awesome margaritas! The service however was awful. Waitress was short with us and non attentive. Being involved in the service industry I am fully aware of the responsibility. I'm just warning you on a busy special night don't expect great service. Also salsa is similar to ketchup.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
